The objective of the article was to determine the relationship between academic motivation and academic performance in nursing students at the Universidad Nacional Mayor De San Marcos. For this, a methodology based on a non-experimental, correlational and cross-sectional study was applied, developed in 54 nursing students from UNMSM. The information was collected through the survey technique and documentary analysis. The valid and reliable academic motivation scale was used; as well as the list of final average of students. Descriptive statistics such as the Kolmogorov test (K-S) were estimated to establish if there was a normal distribution of the data. To establish the relationship of variables, it was calculated with Spearman's Rho correlation coefficient. From the results, it is emphasized that of the total nursing students surveyed, 100% (54), 63.02% (34) present good academic motivation, 33.29% (18) present regular and 3.69% (2) low academic motivation. For this reason, it was concluded by accepting the research hypothesis, that is, "There is a direct and significant relationship between academic motivation and academic performance in nursing students at UNMSM" a result found by means of the correlation analysis with Spearman's r and the null hypothesis is rejected. Therefore, it could be affirmed that the greater the academic motivation, the greater the academic performance.
