Abstract

The industrial revolution 4.0 implies transformations in social dynamics, mediated by the use of web 2.0 and 3.0 tools, the rise of social networks and their use from an early age; which represents for educational institutions the need to rethink their educational management and the type of students that today they link to the teaching and learning processes. In response to this, the purpose of this study is to analyze the incidence of addiction to social networks on academic results and the development of depression in university students in Manizales. Method: quantitative research, non-experimental design - transversal and descriptive scope - correlational with a sample of 466 university students. Instruments: socio-demographic questionnaire, questionnaire on the use of social networks and HDRS. Results: there are significant correlations between obsession with social networks and depression; Conclusion: the longer the connection time on social networks, the lower academic performance and the greater risk of depression.
